Thorpe, Ashbourne, Derbyshire DE6 2AW, UK

This event was first run in 2017 and is a 7.2km challenging Category A fell race in stunning White Peak countryside run under FRA (Fell Running Association) rules. The 2021 event sees the addition of two shorter junior national championship races. Net event proceeds will go to local charities including Ilam School who help support the event with refreshments and marshals as well as the National Trust to assist in maintaining the beautiful and extremely popular Dovedale area.

All the race routes are in and around the Ilam and Dovedale area - see the 2021 provisional route map below - and the race starts are 5 minutes walk from registration. The main 7.2km race route initially climbs steeply up Bunster Hill before descending into the Dovedale valley. The run then follows the picturesque River Dove for a short tarmac section before crossing the iconic stepping stones followed by a steep and unrelenting climb up to the summit of Flagpole Hill. After a short ridge run the race ascends the limestone hill known as Thorpe Cloud before another long descent and a fast finish across the fields by the Izaak Walton Hotel back to the finish at Ilam Hall.
